The Suzuki Intruder Owners' Club is a great place to start.īeing a hot rod means the M800 has more kicked out forks than a conventional cruiser, a fatter rear tyre and a long and low wheelbase – all to enhance stability and give the long and low stance that makes these drag bike style machines great performers in a straight line away from traffic lights and suchlike. Once you've read this review and our owners' reviews, you may want to join an online community to meet likeminded people. If the cosmetics are good (and the M800’s chrome and paint are as good as any), you like the style and experience and don’t mind the badge you’re unlikely to be disappointed. In the UK, these latter version survived longest until being finally killed off by emissions laws in 2012 and are considered among the best ‘non-American’ examples of the hot rod breed thanks to their clean styling, proven, grunty performance, decent (for a cruiser) handling, reliability and durability and, best of all, impressive value.Īlthough the smaller of Suzuki’s two versions the M800 is still a substantial bike with more than sufficient performance its handling and braking are among the best of any bikes of this type and age there’s virtually no mechanical or cosmetic issues and it can be a great value used buy.Īlthough now aging compared to other classes such as sports or adventure bikes, the M800’s hot rod style hasn’t dated at all and its performance is still competitive. The shaft-drive V-twin engines were produced in mid-range 750/800 capacities and big bore 1400/1500/1600cc variants and from the late 1990s these powered three different styles of cruiser – the chopper style VS Intruder, the fat-wheeled, ‘50s retro style VL Intruder C (which in the US was also called the Volusia) and the more hot rod style VZ Marauder, which, to add further confusion, was in the UK called the M800 or M1600 Intruder. Any ideas on what might be the culprit here? I don't exactly have the funds to just start replacing parts til I get the right one. I'm a quick study bit haven't come across this problem before. It hasn't ran rough like it was since then, but every now and again that cylinder will go out for just a millisecond before coming back, and every time I hit a bump in the road or enter/exit a rough bridge transition, it will pop one time pretty quickly but loud. I usually drive it about 50 miles round trip every day. I checked it and just seemed to be weathering from sitting in the elements and there were no air leaks when I tested it.

However, I noticed the manifold was cracked while working on it. When I got it all back together and started her up, she popped and backfired for about ten maybe fifteen minutes then smoothed out and has ran pretty well since. There was trash in the float bowl but jets and all other parts were clear. Managed to get to the carbs even though Suzuki was bound and determined to see just how tight they could wedge that front one under the tank when they designed the bike I guess. Cleaned it and put a new inline fuel filter on. After, I had it home I checked my plugs and they were getting fire but my front one was of course fouled up with gas after the cylinder started going out. It got worse after that and the front cylinder kept going out and coming back until it finally stalled and wouldn't start. I thought it was maybe some water in the gas or something so I ran some water remover in it. Anyways, I got the bad gas out and it ran fine for about 800 miles then started running rough and backfiring a lot after I had just filled up. never would cop to it only said he only drove it once a week around his neighborhood and that it had some bad gas in it.

It had been left sitting for I don't know how long although the P.O. True dual exhaust backfires at speed when running over hard bumps I bought this bike used about a month and a half ago.
